PIOTR FRANKOWSKI

Born in 1966, he is probably the best-known Polish automotive journalist outside of Poland. Between 1990 and 1992 he was the editor-in-chief of the MOTOR HOBBY automotive monthly, then he created and ran the MOTO MAGAZYN automotive monthly until 1998. That magazine was featured on the pages of BBC Top Gear magazine and described as “the Polish Top Gear”. Later he was briefly the editor-in-chief of the MOTOR weekly. He has also extensively worked with TV, including several show series for the TVN TURBO channel.

Currently he is a freelance journalist, specializing in drives of rare cars, and in comparisons of vintage cars to present ones. In Poland he regularly publishes his stories in WYSOKIE OBROTY (weekly automotive supplement to Gazeta Wyborcza), AUTO TECHNIKA MOTORYZACYJNA, WPROST, PRZEKROJ, CEO and on www.moto.onet.pl. Abroad, his stories are published in the following countries: the U.K. (Octane, Mercedes Enthusiast Magazine), the U.S. (Winding Road), South Africa, Slovenia, Romania, Cyprus.

His own web page can be found at http://republika.pl/piotrfrankowski. He remains one of very few people who have driven such cars as the Maybach Exelero, the Opel Antara GTC Concept and the Chevrolet WTCC Ultra prototype.

Since February 2008 he is the editor-in-chief of the Polish edition of Top Gear magazine, so far the biggest-selling monthly car magazine in the Polish market (c. 100,000 copies monthly circulation, sold).
